Competence, health and conduct
The Dental Council has a duty to assess if concerns are raised about a practitioner’s ability to practice. These pages outline the steps taken if a concern is raised.
If concerns are raised about a practitioner's competence, the Dental Council may issue a competence review, or advise on appropriate training or education. Safeguards may be put in place to assist you to meet the required standards. It is a supportive and educative process.
If concerns are raised about a practitioner’s health, we work with them and their health professionals to put support mechanisms in place that will keep patients safe while allowing the practitioner to continue in practice if at all possible.
Oral health practitioners are expected to provide safe, ethical care and comply with the professional standards set by the Dental Council. Concerns that a practitioner has fallen below those standards may be considered under our conduct processes.
