About the Dental Council

The Dental Council is a regulatory authority created by the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.

We regulate dentists, dental specialists, oral health therapists, dental therapists, dental hygienists, clinical dental technicians, dental technicians and orthodontic auxiliaries.

We protect the health and safety of the public by making sure that oral health practitioners are competent and fit to practise. We ensure practitioners meet and maintain our standards.
