Vaccinators

The Ministry of Health is requesting your assistance with expanding Aotearoa’s vaccinator workforce.

The Ministry are inviting all registered health practitioners who are currently not practising to consider working as a COVID-19 vaccinator (or in a supporting role). The Dental Council have confirmed that oral health practitioners with an appropriate NZRC core immediate resuscitation certificate are permitted to administer the COVID-19 vaccines after completing the necessary vaccination training, as the DG of Health or Medical Officer of Health have authorised oral health practitioners to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

Vaccinators will be paid and employed locally (usually by a DHB). All employment terms would be negotiated by the employer. The Ministry will send practitioners’ information to the relevant DHB(s) and it will then be up to the employer to follow up with those practitioners regarding possible employment. While employment cannot be guaranteed, there are more than three thousand roles to be filled.

It would be very helpful if you provide the information requested regarding ethnicity, Māori and Pacific health experience, home region, and willingness to relocate (if necessary). This is to ensure that we build a diverse vaccinator workforce that can help us reach all of New Zealand’s communities.
