Update on recertification programme

The Council’s new recertification programme has been in place for over a year now, with the first annual cycle of the dentist recertification programme ending on 30 September 2022.

The Council is very pleased with the successful uptake of the new programme. Currently:

  • 96% of eligible dentists/dental specialists have a professional peer recorded with the Council.
  • Of those, 97% of professional peers and practitioners completed the recertification confirmation and declarations.
  • 1% of submitted confirmations and declarations are under review due to different responses between the peer and the practitioner.

We are contacting those practitioners who have not completed the requirements to follow up and ensure they complete their recertification programme.

The first annual recertification cycle for the other oral health practitioners (oral health therapists, dental therapists, dental hygienists, orthodontic auxiliaries, dental technicians and clinical dental technicians) will end on 31 March 2023, and we look forward to this cycle being equally successful.

After the end of the first recertification cycle for all oral health practitioners, the Council will reflect, identify learnings and continue to refine and improve the new framework.
