Protection framework changes announced 23 March 2022

On 23 March 2022 the Prime Minister announced changes to the COVID-19 Protection Framework.

While a number of changes were announced, the most relevant to the Dental Council’s Risk management principles for oral health during the COVID-19 pandemic supplementary standard is the removal of the requirement for QR scanning from this weekend.

The following minor updates have been made to the supplementary standard:

  • QR scanning (p6): making provision for QR scanning only when it is required under the COVID-19 protection framework
  • Patient screening questions (p8): removing reference to overseas travellers from the self-isolation requirement.

No other changes have been made to the supplementary standard, as these measures are still considered necessary and appropriate mitigations to keep practitioners, staff and patients safe.

No change to the vaccine mandate for the health and disability sector has been announced today, but it was indicated that further advice on this is pending from the Ministry of Health. We will update practitioners if changes to the vaccine mandate are made.
