The Council set a new recertification programme for all registered oral health practitioners on 12 April 2021.
The new programme starts:
- from 1 October 2021 for dentists and dental specialists
- from 1 April 2022 for oral health therapists, dental hygienists, dental therapists, orthodontic auxiliaries, dental technicians and clinical dental technicians.
Your recertification programme handbook is a one-stop guide to the new programme. It sets out what you need to do and why you need to do it. It includes guidance, decision tools, templates and examples.
The handbook details each step and requirement of the new programme and includes a questions and answers section.
If you would like to print a copy of the handbook, a printable version is available.
To quickly access summary information about the key programme requirements, you can use these resources:
If you prefer hard copies of these resources, printable versions are available:
It's your recertification programme and the Council encourages you to use whatever templates suit you.
To get you started we have prepared some sample templates that you can download, edit and save on your own computer:
The editable templates are also included in the handbook.
Step by step guides for online services
We have extended our online services to include your recertification programme.
We have prepared these step by step guides to help you manage your recertification programme requirements online:
From 8 July 2021, dentists and dental specialists will be able to nominate their peer online.
In early 2022, we will advise oral health therapists, dental hygienists, dental therapists, orthodontic auxiliaries, dental technicians and clinical dental technicians when they should nominate their peer online.
We will be producing a series of videos and these will be uploaded on the website when they are available.
The details of the new recertification programme are set out in the Recertification of oral health practitioners policy.
You can also read about the evidence base that supports the design of the new programme.
More information is also set out in the notice of the new recertification programme sent to all practitioners in May 2021.
