At its August meeting, the Council noted the following in relation to its membership:
- Robin Whyman was reappointed for another term of three years, until 1 June 2020.
- Michael Holdaway, general dentist, was appointed to the Council, until 20 July 2020.
- Lyndie Foster Page’s term on the Council ended on 14 July 2017. Associate Professor Foster Page was appointed to the Australian Dental Council/Dental Council (NZ) Accreditation Committee in October 2013, and reappointed in October 2016 for another three year term. Associate Professor Foster Page confirmed her willingness to stand for nomination to continue serving on the committee and the Council nominated her as the senior dental academic representative on the joint committee. The nomination is to replace Professor Robert Love who has been the Council-appointed senior dental academic New Zealand representative since 2005. The Council thanks Professor Love for his commitment and expertise.
- The Council also nominated John Aarts to the joint committee. Although Mr Aarts was a registered non-dentist/dental specialist, the Council was of the view there was merit with a non-dentist representative on the joint committee. Council noted Mr Aarts has served as an assessor for the joint ADC/DC(NZ) accreditation committee.
- Dr Mark Thomas has replaced Dr Arlo Upton on the Council’s Transmissible Major Viral Infections panel. We thank Dr Upton for her time and expertise advising the panel. Dr Thomas is currently the Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases at the University of Auckland and also works as an infectious diseases physician for the Auckland District Health Board.

I practice as a general dental practitioner in Ashburton. My wife and I are the owners of Dentistry on Parkside. We have grown this business within our community for the last 27 years. Our practice now has three full-time dentists and two full-time dental therapists/hygienists. It has been our aim to provide a full range of quality dental services within Ashburton.
I am passionate about continuing education and supporting my staff to continue in upskilling while nurturing a special interest in surgical implant dentistry, which my colleagues now share.
As a result we offer IV sedation, Cerec restorations and crowns and I continue to develop a passion for implant-based solutions in the edentulous maxilla and mandible.
Together, Mary-Jo and I have raised three daughters in the thriving community of Ashburton. I enjoy keeping fit, swimming and building an interest in bee keeping while serving in our local Anglican parish.
